Why Carson Homes Need Expert Fencing

Fencing — Frequently Asked Questions
- What fence height is allowed in South Bay cities?
- Most South Bay cities allow up to 6 feet in rear and side yards without a permit, and 3–4 feet in front yard setbacks. Palos Verdes Estates limits front yard fencing to 3 feet and has material restrictions. Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach have setback requirements that affect where property-line fencing can be placed. We verify the specific regulations for your parcel before design.
- Do I need a permit for a fence?
- Most 6-foot or under residential privacy fences don't require a building permit, but they may require a site plan or HOA approval. Fences over 6 feet, retaining wall combinations, and pool code fencing all require permits. We identify permit requirements as part of our initial assessment.
- How long does fence installation take?
- A standard residential privacy fence (100–150 linear feet) takes 1–2 days for installation. Projects with challenging terrain, retaining wall interfaces, or motorized gates take longer. We provide a specific timeline at the estimate stage.
- What maintenance does aluminum or vinyl fencing require?
- Essentially none — periodic washing with a garden hose to remove salt accumulation is all that's required. Aluminum powder-coat is warranted against corrosion by most manufacturers for 20–30 years. Vinyl carries similar warranties. This is a significant advantage over wood, which requires sealing, staining, and board replacement every few years in coastal conditions.
