Why El Segundo Homes Need Expert Sewage Cleanup
The El Segundo Challenge
El Segundo's coastal proximity creates moderate salt-air corrosion risk, while the older housing stock faces typical aging-infrastructure emergencies including supply line failures and sewer lateral backups. The city's compact geography means Paragon can respond to any El Segundo address within 40 minutes from our South Bay base.
The Paragon Solution
Paragon Home Services has served El Segundo homeowners since 2007 — 18+ years of sewage backup & biohazard cleanup experience specific to the South Bay's unique construction era, climate, and infrastructure challenges. Every project is managed by licensed, W-2 technicians with the tools and expertise your home deserves.
Biohazard Containment Protocol
- 1
Source identification and immediate isolation — we locate the originating blockage or backup point and stop further contamination from entering the structure.
- 2
Negative air pressure containment with poly barriers isolates the affected zone, preventing cross-contamination to clean areas of the home through HVAC or air movement.
- 3
Bulk removal of all contaminated porous materials — drywall, insulation, carpet, padding, wood framing — that cannot be reliably decontaminated to IICRC standard.
- 4
EPA-registered antimicrobial fogging and surface disinfection of all remaining hard surfaces using hospital-grade agents, applied in proper sequence and dwell time.
- 5
HEPA air scrubbing runs throughout the process to capture airborne biological particulate and prevent cross-contamination during demo and cleaning operations.
- 6
Independent post-remediation clearance inspection and documentation package — air quality report, treatment log, and certificate of completion for insurance submission.

Sewage Cleanup — Frequently Asked Questions
- Can you save the flooring after a sewage backup?
- Hard, non-porous surfaces (tile, sealed concrete) can often be decontaminated and preserved. Porous materials — carpet, hardwood, laminate, vinyl plank, drywall — that have contacted Category 3 water must be removed and replaced. IICRC S500 is explicit on this standard. We cannot in good conscience attempt to 'clean' materials that will harbor pathogens.
- How long does the odor last after sewage cleanup?
- If properly remediated — meaning all contaminated porous material is removed and surfaces are treated with EPA-registered antimicrobials — odor should be eliminated, not just masked. Persistent odor after remediation almost always indicates incomplete removal. Our process includes enzymatic treatment and ozone treatment after bulk removal to address any residual odors.
- Do you handle the insurance paperwork?
- Yes. We provide a complete claim documentation package: photo log of all affected areas, moisture readings, scope of work, treatment log with product names and dwell times, and a certificate of completion. We work directly with all major carriers and can coordinate with your adjuster.
- Is it safe to stay home during sewage remediation?
- For minor, isolated events (single bathroom, contained area), it's often possible to occupy the rest of the home while we contain and remediate the affected zone. For larger events involving HVAC contamination, multiple rooms, or crawlspace involvement, temporary relocation is strongly recommended. We advise on this on a case-by-case basis at the initial assessment.
