Why Hermosa Beach Homes Need Expert Painting
The Hermosa Beach Challenge
Hermosa Beach's luxury rental and resale market demands impeccable interior finishes. Salt air, ocean mist, and high foot traffic from beach lifestyles means paint, flooring, and drywall degrade faster here than anywhere else in the South Bay — professional-grade materials and coatings are the only appropriate choice.
The Paragon Solution
Paragon Home Services has served Hermosa Beach homeowners since 2007 — 18+ years of interior & exterior painting experience specific to the South Bay's unique construction era, climate, and infrastructure challenges. Every project is managed by licensed, W-2 technicians with the tools and expertise your home deserves.
Our Painting Process
- 1
Complete surface protection — floors are covered with rosin paper and canvas drop cloths (not plastic, which shifts and tears). Furniture is moved to room centers and wrapped. Fixtures are masked.
- 2
Surface preparation — all nail holes, cracks, and imperfections are filled with joint compound or spackle, sanded smooth, and spot-primed. All trim-to-wall and ceiling-to-wall transitions are caulked with paintable latex caulk.
- 3
Full primer coat on new or repaired surfaces — PVA primer is applied to all new drywall and repaired areas. Spot priming is applied to all spackled points on painted walls.
- 4
Ceiling first — ceilings are rolled with a flat finish (Sherwin-Williams Ceiling Paint or Emerald flat) before any wall painting begins, minimizing roller splatter on finished walls.
- 5
Walls — two coats minimum of Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura in the specified sheen. We never thin paint or apply single-coat coverage.
- 6
Trim and doors — a semi-gloss or satin finish on all trim, baseboard, and door faces, applied by brush for a level, smooth finish without roller texture.
- 7
Final touch-up walkthrough with the client — we walk the entire space with you in raking light, touch up any areas, and verify complete coverage and clean edges before protection is removed.

Interior Painting — Frequently Asked Questions
- How many coats does professional interior painting require?
- Two coats minimum on all painted surfaces — this is non-negotiable for proper coverage and color accuracy. On new or repaired drywall, a PVA primer coat before the two finish coats is required. Single-coat coverage is adequate only for touch-up work on existing, well-bonded paint in the same color. Any contractor offering full-room painting in one coat is cutting corners that will be visible within 12–18 months.
- What paint sheen should I use in a bathroom?
- Satin finish (typically 25–35% gloss) is the correct sheen for bathroom walls — it provides moisture resistance and washability without the harsh reflectivity of semi-gloss. Semi-gloss is appropriate for trim, baseboards, and door faces in all rooms. Flat and matte finishes are not appropriate for bathrooms — they absorb moisture and cannot be washed without leaving marks.
- Do you provide the paint or should I buy it?
- Paragon provides all paint materials — we purchase at contractor pricing and specify the correct product for each surface. Our standard is Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura for walls, and SW Emerald Urethane or BM Advance for trim and cabinets. You select the colors; we handle everything else. If you have a specific product preference, we accommodate it at cost.
- How do you protect my floors and furniture?
- All floors are covered with rosin paper (an absorbent paper that won't shift) and canvas drop cloths in work areas. Furniture is moved to room centers and wrapped with plastic. Fixtures, hardware, and outlets are masked with painter's tape and paper. When we leave at the end of each day, all protection is still in place — we don't leave unprotected surfaces overnight.
