Premium Materials. Spotless Prep. Guaranteed Finish.
Interior painting is the highest-ROI renovation in the South Bay resale market — and the most commonly done wrong. The difference between a $3/sqft paint job and a $6/sqft professional finish is not the paint — it's the surface preparation. Paragon's painting crew performs complete caulk, skim, sand, and prime preparation on every surface before a brush touches a painted wall. Two coats minimum of premium paint is our standard, not an upgrade.
The Professional Painting Difference
Surface Prep Is Everything
Amateur paint jobs peel, crack, and show imperfections within 2–3 years because surface preparation was skipped or minimized. Professional prep means: fill all nail holes and cracks with spackle or joint compound, sand smooth, caulk all transitions between wall and trim, spot-prime all repaired areas, and apply a full coat of PVA primer on any new or repaired drywall. This prep sequence is what allows paint to bond properly and last the 10+ years that quality paint manufacturers warrant.
Paint Quality Tiers
Paint quality is determined primarily by titanium dioxide content — the pigment that provides coverage and color retention. Budget paints (under $30/gallon) use fillers that cover adequately initially but fade and chalk significantly faster in UV-exposed South Bay conditions. Paragon uses Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura as our standard interior product — both carry a lifetime limited warranty and provide genuine two-coat coverage with proper preparation.
South Bay Light and Color
South Bay homes receive intense, directional natural light that reveals undertones in paint colors in ways that north-facing east coast rooms don't. A gray paint that reads neutral in a showroom can appear strongly purple or green in a room with west-facing ocean light. Paragon's team understands how South Bay light interacts with paint undertones and can advise on color selection before you commit to a full room — including applying sample areas and viewing them at different times of day.
Our Painting Process
- 01Complete surface protection — floors are covered with rosin paper and canvas drop cloths (not plastic, which shifts and tears). Furniture is moved to room centers and wrapped. Fixtures are masked.
- 02Surface preparation — all nail holes, cracks, and imperfections are filled with joint compound or spackle, sanded smooth, and spot-primed. All trim-to-wall and ceiling-to-wall transitions are caulked with paintable latex caulk.
- 03Full primer coat on new or repaired surfaces — PVA primer is applied to all new drywall and repaired areas. Spot priming is applied to all spackled points on painted walls.
- 04Ceiling first — ceilings are rolled with a flat finish (Sherwin-Williams Ceiling Paint or Emerald flat) before any wall painting begins, minimizing roller splatter on finished walls.
- 05Walls — two coats minimum of Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura in the specified sheen. We never thin paint or apply single-coat coverage.
- 06Trim and doors — a semi-gloss or satin finish on all trim, baseboard, and door faces, applied by brush for a level, smooth finish without roller texture.
- 07Final touch-up walkthrough with the client — we walk the entire space with you in raking light, touch up any areas, and verify complete coverage and clean edges before protection is removed.

Interior Painting — Frequently Asked Questions
- How many coats does professional interior painting require?
- Two coats minimum on all painted surfaces — this is non-negotiable for proper coverage and color accuracy. On new or repaired drywall, a PVA primer coat before the two finish coats is required. Single-coat coverage is adequate only for touch-up work on existing, well-bonded paint in the same color. Any contractor offering full-room painting in one coat is cutting corners that will be visible within 12–18 months.
- What paint sheen should I use in a bathroom?
- Satin finish (typically 25–35% gloss) is the correct sheen for bathroom walls — it provides moisture resistance and washability without the harsh reflectivity of semi-gloss. Semi-gloss is appropriate for trim, baseboards, and door faces in all rooms. Flat and matte finishes are not appropriate for bathrooms — they absorb moisture and cannot be washed without leaving marks.
- Do you provide the paint or should I buy it?
- Paragon provides all paint materials — we purchase at contractor pricing and specify the correct product for each surface. Our standard is Sherwin-Williams Emerald or Benjamin Moore Aura for walls, and SW Emerald Urethane or BM Advance for trim and cabinets. You select the colors; we handle everything else. If you have a specific product preference, we accommodate it at cost.
- How do you protect my floors and furniture?
- All floors are covered with rosin paper (an absorbent paper that won't shift) and canvas drop cloths in work areas. Furniture is moved to room centers and wrapped with plastic. Fixtures, hardware, and outlets are masked with painter's tape and paper. When we leave at the end of each day, all protection is still in place — we don't leave unprotected surfaces overnight.
