Why Manhattan Beach Homes Need Expert Outdoor Lighting
The Manhattan Beach Challenge
Manhattan Beach's luxury market demands architectural lighting that enhances property photography, street presence, and nighttime curb appeal. Architectural outdoor lighting systems are a standard specification in the Hill Section and Sand Section, and the Tree Section's mature canopy provides exceptional opportunities for canopy up-lighting and moonlighting installations.
The Paragon Solution
Paragon Home Services has served Manhattan Beach homeowners since 2007 — 18+ years of permanent outdoor & landscape lighting experience specific to the South Bay's unique construction era, climate, and infrastructure challenges. Every project is managed by licensed, W-2 technicians with the tools and expertise your home deserves.
Our Lighting Design and Installation Process
- 1
On-site design consultation — we walk the property at dusk (whenever possible) to understand the existing light environment, identify key architectural features to highlight, and discuss the client's vision for the outdoor living experience.
- 2
Photometric design plan — we specify fixture types, positions, beam angles, and transformer zones on a property plan. You see the design before any installation begins.
- 3
Low-voltage wire routing — all wire is buried at code depth or routed through conduit in hardscape areas. No exposed wire, no surface-mounted runs.
- 4
Fixture mounting and weatherproofing — all fixtures are mounted with stainless hardware, connections are waterproofed with direct-burial wire nuts or UL-listed connectors rated for buried applications.
- 5
Smart controller programming and app setup — astronomical timer calibration, scene programming, and app pairing are completed before we leave the site.
- 6
Client walkthrough at dusk — we walk the completed system with you at night to demonstrate zones, discuss any adjustments, and confirm the design meets expectations. Fine-tuning of beam angles and positioning is included.

Landscape Lighting — Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between 12V and 120V landscape lighting?
- 12V low-voltage systems are the standard for residential landscape lighting — safer (low shock risk), energy-efficient (LED fixtures consume 3–10 watts), and easier to install and modify. 120V line-voltage systems are used for security floods, post lights connected to existing circuits, and commercial applications. Paragon installs both, with low-voltage LED systems as the standard recommendation for landscape lighting.
- Can you add to my existing landscape lighting system?
- Usually yes, depending on the transformer's available capacity. We assess your existing transformer load, wire gauge, and fixture types, then specify additional zones that integrate cleanly. If your existing transformer is at capacity or uses outdated technology, we may recommend upgrading to a modern smart transformer as the hub for the expanded system.
- Is the lighting programmable by zone?
- Yes. Modern smart transformers support multiple zones, each independently programmable for on/off timing, dimming level, and scene assignment. Your front path lighting might dim to 30% after midnight while the security floods on the rear of the home stay at full output. All zone programming is accessible from your smartphone.
- Will coastal salt air corrode the fixtures?
- Standard landscape fixtures are not rated for marine environments. Paragon specifies marine-grade brass, solid copper, or stainless steel fixtures for all South Bay coastal installations within approximately 1 mile of the ocean — covering most of Redondo Beach, Hermosa, Manhattan Beach, and Palos Verdes coastal properties. These fixtures are designed for direct salt-air exposure and carry manufacturer warranties of 10–25 years.
